Although social activity has stagnated due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many parts of the world have already begun to rebuild their economies with green recovery policies. Green recovery is also required in the field of waste and material cycles. Under these circumstances, Global academics including Asia-Pacific, policy makers, and business people will come together for interdisciplinary discussions.

In the “Special Session” of the conference, addressing the new era of a sustainable society, the latest research and information from various countries and regions will be shared and discussed on the following hot issues; carbon neutrality, circular economy, 2Rs (reduce & reuse), decentralized MSW treatment, and material cycles of construction works.

  • 2Rs ー How to promote Actions and Policy for the 2Rs(Reduce and Reuse) Towards the Circular Economy? (Organized by Institute for Global Environmental Strategies)
The movement towards a circular economy and a disposable plastic-free society is accelerating.
New business models, consumer behaviors and lifestyles based on the 2Rs will play a key role in achieving these transitions.
In this session, we will consider what changes are needed in policies, stakeholders’ efforts, and infrastructure to establish the 2Rs as a business model and consumer behavior.

  • Circular Economy -Transformation of Policiesto Actions (Organized by the Solid Waste Management Association of Thailand (SWAT) )
Thailand has introduced the National Roadmap on Solid Waste Management since 2015. After that, there have been several more national strategies and action plans on waste and plastic waste management. In particular, the Roadmap on Plastic Waste Management which is effective from 2018 to 2030, the plan is aimed at reducing or banning single-use plastic (SUP) products and increasing the recycling rate of plastic waste. In addition, Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economic Model has been introduced by the research community and promoted by the Thai government as a new economic model for inclusive and sustainable growth. The BCG model capitalizes on the country’s strengths in biological diversity and cultural richness and employs technology and innovation to transform Thailand into a value-based and innovation-driven economy. The model also conforms with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and is also intended to align with the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy (SEP) which is also the key principle of Thailand’s social and economic development. Introducing circular economy (CE) principles in production, trade, and consumption within the waste hierarchy (i.e., reduce, reuse, recycle) can provide solutions to current unsustainable production and consumption patterns. The special session will include policies and supporting measures and especially the implementation of CE by private sectors. Case studies with tangible results in Thailand will be discussed.

  • Decentralized technologies, equipment and its techno-economic assessment for MSW treatment (Organized by Special Committee on Rural Waste Management (SCRWM), China Association of Urban Environmental Sanitation (CAUES))
There are more and more demands for decentralized technologies and equipment for solid waste treatment in the counties and rural areas, in order to reduce the cost of waste collection and transportation. However, the treatment capacity of the decentralized system is usually small, which will lead to more challenges in the process stability, economical efficiency, pollution control and process operation. Therefore, this special session will discuss and introduce the viable technologies for decentralized treatment, as well as the relating equipment, case practice, and techno-economic assessment when compared with the centralized mode.

  • Material cycles in construction works (Organized by the Japan Society of Material Cycles and Waste Management )
The Journal of Material Cycles and Waste Management is currently running a Special Issue entitled “Material cycles in construction works” to explore the contributions of construction industry to solutions and prescriptions for technical, political, and environmental problems of material cycles and waste management. This session collaborates with the special issue and introduces some latest and innovative achievements in reuse and recycle of municipal and industrial wastes in construction works.

  • Resource Circulation Strategy for Carbon Neutrality (Organized by the Korea Society of Waste Management (KSWM))
Resource circulation strategy for carbon neutrality, one of the important agendas during 3RINCs 2022 special topic, can become a platform in the field of solid waste management to raise the significance and consequences of resources recovery from waste materials, to discuss the scientific solutions for carbon reduction by circular activities, and to inform the new aspect of waste management in the world.
The aim of this special session is to promote the academic knowledge exchange in the field of resource circulation and carbon neutrality. Thus, we sincerely wish all participants and audiences to share would share their knowledge and experiences among international experts and professionals to promote mutual understandings in these areas through this session. 3RINCs 2022 would like to invite all of you in Asia, Europe, America, Oceania, and Africa to explore and strengthen the network among academic and field professionals in resource circulation towards carbon neutrality well as the world’s concerns on the waste management.

The “General Session” will cover wide range of topics and be a good opportunity to publish your research works as the proceedings e-book. You can also get a chance to submit full paper for the special issue of well-known international journal. We will focus on the dissemination of information from companies and the exchange of ideas between companies and researchers/participants to discuss global issues in the field of waste and material cycles and to strengthen mutual relations.

Programme of General Sessions

In addition, we are preparing plenary lectures, company presentations and special events in order to be able to communicate with a larger number of participants.

This is a unique opportunity to listen intensively to these discussions and to interact with the people involved.

We hope you will join us.
